Waltz with Me

I wrote this song in the summer of 2019, nearly a year before I began writing In the Sweet Midwinter. At the time, I had only a vague sense that it might be integrated into a future romance novel with a Christmas theme. I’ve written songs since my college days when I bought a pawn-shop guitar and learned a handful of basic chords, but this is the first time I’ve crafted a book around a song, and I loved every moment of the process!

Disclaimer: I sing and play the guitar only as a hobby. My friend Miguel, who records people and makes them sound awesome for a living, gave it his all to make this as good as it is. Please listen with forgiving ears?  (If Deci could actually record this, it would sound WAY better!)

Here I am doing my best impression of Taylor Swift (haha):

Here are the complete lyrics to Waltz with Me:

Crowded room, candlelight
Through the window I see the moon shine
Mistletoe decks the halls
As young lovers pair up for a waltz

Meet my gaze, take my hand
Lead me out to the sound of the band
Spin me round, pull me close
Let’s pretend that we’ll never let go

And it’s 1-2-3, 1-2-3
Waltz with me, waltz with me
There’s no place that I’d rather be
Step and turn, step and turn
All the steps we have learned
Blending in this melody
Waltz with me

Crowded lives, crazy days
Each hour feels more like a race
What’s the rush? Where’s the prize?
Are we wasting the days of our lives?

But with you, life slows down
As we ramble around this old town
Stop the clock, slow the beat
Right now, it’s just you and me

Here we are, falling so fast
Trusting our hearts
All I know is I’m holding tight
Don’t let me go

And it’s 1-2-3, 1-2-3
Waltz with me, waltz with me
There’s no place that I’d rather be
Step and turn, step and turn
All the steps we have learned
Blending in this melody
Waltz with me
